Jimmy Chevalier has announced that he will be a candidate for Alexandria City Marshal, Wards 1, 2 and 8, in the fall elections.
Pointing to the area's growth, Chevalier said, "If we are to keep pace, we must work smarter and more efficiently. I plan to utilize the existing personnel and advancing technology to better serve the people of Wards 1, 2, and 8. Our goal will be to have the best trained deputy marshals in the state."
Chevalier has served as an officer in the Alexandria Police Department and with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office.
Chevalier holds a B.S. degree from Louisiana College in criminal justice and a masters in criminal justice administration from Northeast Louisiana University (now University of Louisiana-Monroe). He has completed the three-month FBI Training Academy in Quantico, Va.
His experience includes supervision of the City-Parish Narcotics Division, director of the Alexandria Regional Police Academy and Warden of Rapides Parish Detention Center III.
He has served as president of the Alexandria Exchange Club, state director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, board member of Special Olympics Louisiana and president of the Louisiana Academy Directors Association. He was a recipient of the Alexandria Jaycees Outstanding Young Law Enforcement Award.
He is a lifelong resident of Rapides Parish and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Alexandria. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have five children.
"I decided to run for this position because I felt the marshal's office needed to modernize and serve the people better," Chevalier said.
